This 2 day workshop provides mums-to-be and their birth partners with invaluable skills in preparing for the birth of their baby. Delivered by qualified midwives in accordance with the NICE guidelines over two Saturday's so that it is easier for everyone to attend. Please find an overview of the course content below.

Anatomy and physiology of labour and birth
Developing an understanding of the pelvis and its role during pregnancy, labour and birth
Understanding optimal baby positioning
Creating the right environment for labour and birth
Hormones and their role during pregnancy, labour and birth
Pain relief options and comfort measures used during labour
First stage of labour, what’s happening, what it feels like and comfort measures from caregivers
Second stage of labour, what’s happening, what it feels like and comfort measures from caregivers
Third stage of labour

Day Two

When birth might not be normal, deviations from normality.
Birth preferences
Skin to skin contact with your new baby – Mum and Dad
Apgar Score assessment of new baby
Cutting the cord
Vitamin K
First feed
Transfer to postnatal ward
Infant feeding
Bonding and attachment
Recovery from birth, pain relief and care from midwives in the early days
Going home with your new baby

The cost is £60 for the mum-to-be and their birth partner for both days and includes refreshments, lunch and a course handbook.
